Sobek is a Setite in the Independent Alliance, and the Setite Doyen of the Alliance.

History

Early Years

October 9th, 1980: Twins Matthew and Marla were born in Toronto on the same day as the Opet festival, a Setite celebration marking Set’s crossing of the Nile. This birthdate would later hold significant meaning in their lives.

1995: As teenagers, Marla became captivated by neo-paganism, particularly the pre-Columbian civilizations of the Americas. She believed that the Aztecs and Mayans possessed lost sciences of prophecy and fate-weaving and was convinced that the Aztecs had predicted the year 2000 as the end of the world. Meanwhile, Matthew immersed himself in the revolutionary tales of Che Guevara and Castro, viewing them as freedom fighters against the oppressive US empire.

The Turning Point

1997: Marla persuaded Matthew to celebrate their final year of high school with a motorcycle trip through Latin America, starting in Mexico and visiting the sacred sites of the pre-Columbian empires. However, their adventure took a dark turn when they were kidnapped by cartels in Nicaragua. The twins endured nearly a year of captivity, being relocated to Colombia and forced to learn Spanish to communicate with their captors. During a guerrilla attack on the cartel, they seized the chaos to escape into the jungle. By a stroke of luck, they found their way to Quito, Ecuador. Without passports or a Canadian embassy to aid their return, they faced life on the streets and joined a local gang, beginning their descent into crime.

Descent into Darkness

1998-1999: Within a year, Matthew and Marla gained status within the gang—Matthew as a high-end narcotrafficker and Marla as a smuggler of pre-Columbian artifacts. They chose not to return to Canada, reveling in their new life of brutality and freedom. During this period, they met Hesha Ruhadze, who sought a relic called “Xochiquetzal’s Crown.” Enticed by the promise of wealth, they joined him on his quest. As they traveled through Latin America, Matthew negotiated with various criminal factions (Brazilian commandos, Peruvian mafias, and Argentina’s Barras), while Marla’s knowledge of pre-Columbian cultures proved invaluable to Hesha. Impressed, Hesha decided to ghoul them.

The Embrace of the Serpent

January 1st, 2000: In Buenos Aires, amidst a Setite temple, Hesha tested the twins. They passed the Gate of Revelation and were embraced as vampires on New Year’s Day of the new millennium.

2000-2010: Hesha returned to Asia, entrusting the search for the Crown to his childes. The twins discovered that the artifact was held by the Tlacique bloodline in a secret Amazon temple. Relocating from Buenos Aires, they reinforced their ties to Egyptian orthodoxy, renaming themselves Sobek and Sobeka, in honor of Set’s childe and the crocodile god.

Rise to Power

2011: Sobek attended the signing of the Treaty of Alliance as Hesha’s bodyguard. At this event, Sobek became an outspoken advocate against the Tlacique bloodline, arguing that their influence should be reabsorbed into the main Setite clan. He publicly denounced the Tlacique as self-absorbed and lost to Set’s cause. Sobek's rhetoric was forceful and passionate, emphasizing the need for unity and strength within the Setite clan. He argued that the Tlacique's deviation from traditional Setite teachings weakened their collective power and made them vulnerable to external threats. Sobek's advocacy was not without opposition; many within the clan viewed his stance as aggressive and divisive. However, his persuasive arguments and the respect he commanded as Hesha’s bodyguard ensured that his voice was heard and considered by the leadership. Meanwhile, Sobeka remained in South America, deeply absorbed in her research, providing valuable insights and support to Sobek's campaign from afar.

2012-2030: The twins declared the Tlacique their enemies, working to undermine their influence in Latin America. Sobeka located the Crown in a Tlacique stronghold.

The 2031 Confrontation

In 2031, Sobek and Sobeka orchestrated a daring plan to seize the artifact known as Xochiquetzal's Crown from the Tlacique. This plan involved leveraging their deep connections within the criminal underworld and the resources of their cartel.

A mining company, covertly funded by Sobek’s cartel, invaded a protected area of the Peruvian Amazon. This region was known to be under the influence of an uncontacted tribe ghouled by the Tlacique. The mining operation was a strategic move, designed to provoke a response from the Tlacique and create chaos that the twins could exploit. As anticipated, the invasion led to violent clashes between the mining company’s forces and the tribe. The tribe, fiercely protective of their land and empowered by their Tlacique masters, launched a formidable resistance.

Amidst this turmoil, Sobek and Sobeka infiltrated the area under the guise of overseeing the mining operation. Using their mastery of Setite disciplines and their knowledge of guerrilla tactics, they navigated through the conflict-ridden jungle. Their goal was the secret Tlacique temple, hidden deep within the forest and heavily guarded by both supernatural and human defenders.

The twins employed a combination of stealth, subterfuge, and brute force to breach the temple’s defenses. Sobeka’s deep understanding of pre-Columbian rituals and symbols proved invaluable, allowing them to bypass many of the temple’s mystical protections. Meanwhile, Sobek coordinated with the cartel’s operatives to distract and neutralize the human guards.

Inside the temple, they faced fierce resistance from the Tlacique vampires. The battle was intense, with both sides utilizing their vampiric powers to devastating effect. Sobek’s combat prowess and strategic mind, combined with Sobeka’s arcane knowledge and agility, eventually tipped the scales in their favor. They fought their way through to the inner sanctum where Xochiquetzal’s Crown was kept.

Upon securing the Crown, the twins declared it “Hathor’s Tiara,” symbolically renaming it to signify its reclamation by the loyalist Setites and their defiance against the Tlacique. This act was not merely a theft but a profound statement of ideological conquest, asserting the supremacy of Set’s true followers over the Tlacique’s splintered faction.

Establishing a Legacy

2032-2051: After their victory, Sobek and Sobeka relocated to Mexico, where they joined the Cartel de los Santos. They transformed a local branch of the cartel into a Setite blood cult. Sobek became the local patron, and Sobeka the dark curandera. Known as the “Dark Gringos” in the cartel and the “Twin Snakes” among Setites, they developed localized Setite rites to better infiltrate and influence Latin culture.

A New Doyen

2052: In a twist of fate that left Sobek simmering with resentment, he was summoned to Caliburn Island by his sire, Hesha, following the I.A. symposium. Unbeknownst to Sobek, Hesha had orchestrated this meeting with a calculated foresight, knowing full well the events that would unfold. In July, amidst the shadowed corridors and ancient stone of Caliburn, the Janus Guard demanded that a new Setite Doyen be appointed.

The honor, if it could be called that, fell upon Sobek. The weight of this mantle was not lost on him; it was a responsibility he had never sought. As the pronouncement echoed through the hall, Sobek's eyes narrowed with a cold fury. He could feel the invisible strings Hesha had pulled to place him in this position, a puppet in a grand design he had only now fully perceived.

Amaru The Veiled

Amaru The Veiled, Sobek's retinue

Years of Operation: 2004 - 2052

Origin: Uncharted Brazilian Jungle

Affiliations: Setite Clan, Los Santos Rebeldes Cult

Overview

Amaru the Veil is a monstrous anaconda, known for its ambush predation and mastery of the Obfuscate discipline. Raised by the infamous Twins Serpents, Amaru became an integral part of their operations and the Setite clan.

History

Between 2004 and 2052, the Twins operated in an uncharted Brazilian jungle, focusing on undermining Tlacique influence over local criminal organizations. During this period, they encountered a drug lord involved in exotic animal smuggling. Negotiations failed, leading to violent confrontations. Upon capturing the drug lord, the Twins discovered a beautiful anaconda egg among his possessions.

The Twins decided to hatch the egg and named the baby snake "Amaru," in honor of the serpent god revered by local tribes. Sobek grew attached to the snake and turned it into a ghoul. With ample food and room to grow, and possibly due to the empowering effect of vitae, Amaru grew to monstrous, masquerade-breaching proportions. Feeding the snake became a logistical challenge until Sobek decided to feed Amaru the remains of the cartel members. Consequently, Amaru developed a taste for human flesh.

Abilities and Titles

Primarily an ambush predator, Amaru instinctively learned and mastered levels of Obfuscate, earning him the title of “Amaru the Veil” and an honorary position in the Setite clan. His mastery of this discipline made him an expert in stealth and concealment.

Role in the Setite Clan

Sobek spends hours consulting with Amaru in the language of the snakes, discussing topics ranging from religion to Kindred politics. To the Twins, Amaru is more than a pet; he is the physical representation of the Beast in their temple, their ambassador to Apep, the Serpent of Darkness, and a core part of the Los Santos Rebeldes cult. Despite his animal intelligence, Amaru’s serpentine instincts provide a direct connection to Set himself.

Guardian of the Temple

When not actively called upon, Amaru the Veil rests in the Setite temple, serving as its final guardian. However, when Sobek leaves their haven, Amaru often follows, hidden in plain sight using Obfuscate, vigilantly watching over the doyen with his cold, dark eyes
