Downtime Actions
From Dark Skylines Wiki
- Try to select the right type. If you're trying to choose between two, go with whichever is first on the list.
- Feeding: If you do not spend at least one action feeding (or more if you are doing something that takes a lot of blood), you begin game at half blood. If you do not have Herd, you must tell me how you are feeding and what traits you are using. This will usually get a generic response, but you can assume you're fine unless you hear otherwise.
- Interference: Anything that spies on, interacts, or assists with another character's downtimes.
- Investigation: Learning things about the plot.
- Offense: Attacks against NPCs.
- Defense: Patrolling or reinforcing a location.
- Personal: Backstory plot and anything that is foucsed on character development and not the main plot, including investigating other PCs. For those of you who know the narrators: If you think Will is going to be the one writing the response, put it here.
- Research: Non-plot questions about the setting. For example: How do powers work? What's the tech level? What is the leadership structure of this clan?
- Divination: Oracular Ability and anything else that gives you snippets of plot without actively looking for it.
- Cookies: Begging for plot cookies. This is what you do when you don't know what to do. Go for a jog, visit a museum, whatever random thing you can think of. Maybe you'll stumble across plot, maybe you'll get in trouble, maybe you'll get mocked, maybe you won't get a response.
- Shopping: Anything where you obtain equipment (whether you buy it or make it), unless it falls into one of the other categores.
- Sheet: Supporting a change to your character sheet (merits, flaws, disciplines, etc.), unless it also falls into one of the other categories. ONLY things that change your sheet go here.
- Information: You don't expect a response and you're not really moving the plot, but it's something that the narrators should know about. Note that this type is for giving us information. If you're looking for information, it should be under Investigation, Personal, or Interference.
- Other: If you genuinely don't know the category, put it here.
- If you have Oracular Ability or some other power that lets you ask a question at the beginning of game, please put it in your downtimes with "Information" as the source. Even if you want to save it and get your answer at game, remind us to be ready. It does not require an action; use info as the source.
- Remember to list your specializations for ALL Influence actions.
- If you are the sire/guardian of a Fledgeling, you should use one downtime to care for it. Bad things can happen to unsupervised Fledgelings. This action should be submitted under interference.
- If you are a Fledgeling and do not want your sire/guardian to know about your downtimes, you should include why and how you are hiding in each secret action.
- If you submit multiple batches of downtimes, try to make sure you use the exact same character name. Bonus points (not actual points) if you use the same name that I have on the character chart.
- Spying on someone's downtimes with Computers is an interference action.
- Actions filed under "Information" are for things that do not require a response. If you are trying to get information, it should go under Investigation, Research, Interference, or Divination.
- Soul of the Homunculi gives one action per game, not two.
- If you have a flaw that may be relevant to your action, be sure to include it in your traits.
- Each character gets three base downtime actions. They can be used for spying or patrolling or anything else you can think of.
- Talking to another PC rarely requires a downtime action. Don't expect everyone to be available all the time, though. (Most) people have lives outside of LARP.
- The Computers skill gets you a bonus downtime to use for computer-type activities. You may use action to either spy on or prevent one downtime action of another character. The narrator chooses which downtime is affected.
- The Science skill gets you a bonus downtime to use for science-type activities.
