Sobeka was a Setite of the eight hour in the Independent Alliance. She became the Guardian of Sacred Spaces in July 2052 before stepping down to become Warden of Blood in November 2052. She met Final Death in an ambush by the Camarilla in November 2052.

History[edit | edit source]

Early Years[edit | edit source]

October 9th, 1980: Twins Marla and Matthew were born in Toronto on the same day as the Opet festival, a Setite celebration marking Set’s crossing of the Nile. This birthdate would later hold significant meaning in their lives.

1995: As teenagers, Marla became captivated by neo-paganism, particularly the pre-Columbian civilizations of the Americas. She believed that the Aztecs and Mayans possessed lost sciences of prophecy and fate-weaving and was convinced that the Aztecs had predicted the year 2000 as the end of the world. Meanwhile, Matthew immersed himself in the revolutionary tales of Che Guevara and Castro, viewing them as freedom fighters against the oppressive US empire.

The Turning Point[edit | edit source]

1997: Marla persuaded Matthew to celebrate their final year of high school with a motorcycle trip through Latin America, starting in Mexico and visiting the sacred sites of the pre-Columbian empires. However, their adventure took a dark turn when they were kidnapped by cartels in Nicaragua. The twins endured nearly a year of captivity, being relocated to Colombia and forced to learn Spanish to communicate with their captors. During a guerrilla attack on the cartel, they seized the chaos to escape into the jungle. By a stroke of luck, they found their way to Quito, Ecuador. Without passports or a Canadian embassy to aid their return, they faced life on the streets and joined a local gang, beginning their descent into crime.

Descent into Darkness[edit | edit source]

1998-1999: Within a year, Marla and Matthew gained status within the gang—Matthew as a high-end narcotrafficker and Marla as a smuggler of pre-Columbian artifacts. They chose not to return to Canada, reveling in their new life of brutality and freedom. During this period, they met Hesha Ruhadze, who sought a relic called “Xochiquetzal’s Crown.” Enticed by the promise of wealth, they joined him on his quest. As they traveled through Latin America, Marla’s knowledge of pre-Columbian cultures proved invaluable to Hesha, while Matthew negotiated with various criminal factions (Brazilian commandos, Peruvian mafias, and Argentina’s Barras). Impressed, Hesha decided to ghoul them.

The Embrace of the Serpent[edit | edit source]

January 1st, 2000: In Buenos Aires, amidst a Setite temple, Hesha tested the twins. They passed the Gate of Revelation and were embraced as vampires on New Year’s Day of the new millennium.

2000-2010: Hesha returned to Asia, entrusting the search for the Crown to his childer. Relocating from Buenos Aires, they reinforced their ties to Egyptian orthodoxy, renaming themselves Sobek and Sobeka, in honor of Set’s childe and the crocodile god.

Rise to Power[edit | edit source]

In 2011, Sobek attended the signing of the Treaty of Alliance as Hesha’s bodyguard. Sobeka, meanwhile, continued her deep immersion in the ancient texts. During her research, Sobeka unearthed clues leading to a lost Tlacique temple hidden deep within the Amazon rainforest. She embarked on an expedition to find this temple, driven by whispers of forgotten Setite knowledge and powerful secrets. The temple, ancient and overgrown, was a treasure trove of long-lost Setite history. Carvings on the walls depicted the early interactions between the Setites and the Tlacique, revealing a forgotten alliance and shared rituals. But the most significant discovery was the secret of Setite Thaumaturgy. The temple housed scrolls and tablets detailing the rituals and incantations, offering Sobeka new power and knowledge. This discovery solidified Sobeka's status within the Setite hierarchy, providing her with the tools to further the Twins ambitions. Armed with this newfound knowledge, Sobeka returned to her brother, ready to use their advantage against their enemies and elevate their position within the cult of Set.

The Confrontation[edit | edit source]

2012-2030: The twins declared the Tlacique their enemies, working to undermine their influence in Latin America. Sobeka's research and the secrets she uncovered from the lost temple gave them a strategic edge. Her studies bore fruit when they finally located the Crown in a Tlacique stronghold. In 2031, a mining company funded by the twins’ cartel invaded a protected Peruvian Amazon area, clashing with an uncontacted tribe ghouled by the Tlacique. In the ensuing chaos, Sobek and Sobeka infiltrated the secret temple and stole Xochiquetzal's Crown, renaming it "Hathor’s Tiara" to signify their victory.

Establishing a Legacy[edit | edit source]

2032-2051: Relocating to Mexico, Sobek and Sobeka joined the Cartel de los Santos. It was there that Sobeka's transformation from a smuggler of artifacts to a powerful religious leader truly began. She saw an opportunity to merge the brutal efficiency of the cartel with the spiritual dominance of the Setite faith. Using the secrets of Setite Thaumaturgy she had uncovered, Sobeka began to weave Setite rituals into the very fabric of the cartel's operations. She introduced rites and ceremonies that resonated with the local culture while embedding Setite doctrines. Her deep understanding of local religious traditions allowed her to create a syncretic faith that appealed to both the superstitious and the power-hungry. The temple of Los Santos Rebeldes became the sacred Setite worship temple embedded into the regional culture. Sobeka’s influence grew as she established herself as the dark curandera, a soul healer and priestess whose powers were feared and respected. She performed rituals that promised protection, power, and prosperity to cartel members. Her ceremonies often involved blood sacrifices and invocations, enhancing her Eerie presence and solidifying her authority. Through her Thaumaturgy, Sobeka could manipulate minds, control loyalty, and foresee threats, making her an indispensable asset to the cartel. Members began to see her as a conduit to divine power, willing to follow her directives without question. She established a network of acolytes and followers, each bound to her through blood rituals and oaths of loyalty. Sobek, now the local patron of the cartel, provided the muscle and logistical support for their operations. Together, known as the "Twin Serpents”, they transformed the cartel into a Setite blood cult. Sobeka’s religious influence permeated every aspect of their dealings, from narcotrafficking to local governance.

Caliburn Island[edit | edit source]

Summoned to Caliburn Island by Hesha after the I.A. symposium, Sobek and Sobeka aimed to establish a permanent Setite presence. Moving their cartel operations to the island, they prepared to fulfill their destiny as loyalists to Set. Sobeka, as the new priestess of the Setite temple de los Santos Rebeldes of Caliburn Island, was entrusted of expanding the cult's numbers and influence and consecrate new places of worship, spreading the faith of Set across the island.

Temple de Los Santos Rebeldes[edit | edit source]

The cult practiced by the Cartel is a dark offshoot of Folk Catholicism, steeped in ritual and blood. Each new member swears an unbreakable oath to San La Muerte, vowing to forsake heaven unless accepted under the cult's shadowy embrace. As cartel members rise through the ranks, they are compelled to sever ties with traditional Catholicism, devoting their prayers exclusively to the pagan saints. Those who show exceptional devotion are selected by Sobeka herself, handpicked to become part of the twins' inner circle, bound to their will as their chosen herd.

The Folk Saints' Pantheon[edit | edit source]

San La Muerte[edit | edit source]

Our Holy Patron of Death, depicted as a winged skeleton in a dark robe wielding a scythe. The cult believes San La Muerte has the ultimate authority over who enters heaven, guiding the souls of the dead. Members of the inner circle can bribe San La Muerte with offerings of blood, which he drinks like wine. He acts as a representation of the Egyptian god Anubis.

Gauchito Gil[edit | edit source]

The patron of thieves and robbers, protector of petty criminals. El Gauchito Gil is celebrated for his rebellious spirit and acts of defiance against corrupt authorities. He aids those who live on the margins of society. He is associated with the Egyptian god Thoth.

San Verde-mala[edit | edit source]

The patron of dealers and drug smugglers, protector of narcos. San Verde-mala is known for his cunning and resourcefulness in facilitating illicit trades and ensuring the prosperity of those in the narcotics trade. He embodies traits similar to the Egyptian god Sobek.

La llorona[edit | edit source]

An evil spirit that brings vengeance upon those who commit violence against women or children. La Llorona, the weeping woman, is a spectral figure who punishes those who have harmed the innocent. She reflects the fierce retribution of the Egyptian goddess Hathor in her aspect as Sekhmet.

La luz mala[edit | edit source]

Malevolent spirits that hunt in the night for snitches and tattletales. La Luz Mala, the evil lights, are ghostly apparitions that roam the darkness, seeking out those who betray their trust. These spirits mirror the Egyptian goddess Nephthys.

The secret saint[edit | edit source]

Nuestro Santo Salvador Set[edit | edit source]

Saint Set is the secret member of the pantheon, revealed by Sobeka only to those deemed ready to become the twins’ ghouls. He is represented as a robed figure in the darkness. Unlike other saints, Sobeka forbids offerings of candles and oils; Saint Set can only be appeased with blood sacrifices.

Final Death[edit | edit source]

Sobek, Sobeka, and other members of the Independent Alliance were ambushed by a group from the Camarilla in front of the Live🗲Current. An impromptu Blood Hunt was called upon Sobek in the middle of combat by the present Prince of Caliburn Island Selene Blackwood. Sobeka entered a Frenzy after witnessing the final death of her twin Sobek at the hands of Sheriff Danny DeVitae and destroyed herself with fire-based Thaumaturgy once it was clear the combat was not going in favor of the Independent Alliance.

The Camarilla claimed that the Setites were using the powers of Setite Sorcery in order to blood bond, blood contract, and gain other influences over kindred of the island to bring them under control of the Setites. They claimed their ambush was meant to torpor or otherwise capture the Setites to question them. The Independent Alliance claims that they would have willingly agreed to questioning, and the ambush was unjustified with the intention to Final Death the clan.

With the death of the Setite Doyen and the Setite Priestess of the island, finding the truth of the actions of the Setites on the island is likely slim and will remain the subject of debate.
