Ethereal
Ethereal is the current Justicar of Clan Malkavian.
Mortal Years[edit | edit source]
Ethereal's mortal life remains shrouded in mystery, much like the androgynous and enigmatic figure they are today. Born in the late 18th century to a wealthy family in a remote part of Eastern Europe, they were always seen as an oddity. Even as a child, Ethereal exhibited a peculiar blend of charisma and disconcerting insight, often making eerie predictions that uncannily came to pass. These unsettling talents isolated them from their peers but fascinated their elders, who saw them as both a curse and a blessing.
Embrace and Early Kindred Years[edit | edit source]
Ethereal was Embraced by a wandering Malkavian in 1812, who saw in them a spark of profound madness and potential. This sire, whose name has been lost to time, recognized Ethereal’s unique perspective on the world and guided them through the initial chaos of their new existence. While no one disputes the legitimacy of their lineage, all records about Ethereal's sire have disappeared over the years, almost as if they simply faded away into nothingness.
As a neonate, Ethereal wandered Europe with their sire, delving deep into the shadows of Kindred society. Their inherent ability to see the threads of fate and madness that bind the world together soon made them a sought-after seer and advisor.
Ascent Through the Ranks[edit | edit source]
Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, Ethereal’s reputation grew. They became known for their cryptic yet insightful counsel, and their predictions, while often veiled in riddles, proved accurate enough to earn them a place among influential Kindred. Despite their clan's notorious unpredictability, Ethereal's demeanor was one of serene detachment, which only added to their mystique. They forged alliances across various clans and factions, navigating the treacherous waters of Kindred politics with an almost preternatural ease.
The Fall of Maris Streck[edit | edit source]
Maris Streck, the former Malkavian Justicar, had a sire whose identity is unknown—acknowledged in the Camarilla, yet all records about their sire have disappeared over the years, almost as if their sire simply faded away into nothingness. Streck fell in with a conspiracy of slave traders that targeted Kindred and kine alike; the exact nature and circumstances of their involvement remain unknown. Theo Bell, Archon to Justicar Jaroslav Pascek, discovered evidence of the conspiracy's actions and presented it to Pascek. Pascek called Streck to a meeting to discuss the matter, where they were promptly slain by the Nosferatu Justicar, Cock Robin.
Becoming Justicar[edit | edit source]
Ethereal’s rise to the position of Justicar in 2003 followed the sudden death of Maris Streck. Ethereal's appointment came as a surprise to many—while they had a positive reputation in the Camarilla, they had never held a formal position when the Inner Council appointed them. This decision was seen as both unorthodox and strategic, as Ethereal’s unique talents were deemed essential for stabilizing the Malkavian clan during a time of great upheaval.
Tenure as Justicar[edit | edit source]
Since their appointment, Ethereal has maintained their position with a blend of wisdom, unpredictability, and an ironclad will. They are known for their unconventional methods and their ability to foresee events before they unfold, using these talents to keep the Malkavians, and indeed the Camarilla, one step ahead of their enemies. Ethereal's rulings are often steeped in metaphor and obscure references, making them a figure both respected and feared. Under their watch, the Malkavians have become a more cohesive and influential force within the Camarilla, their madness channeled into a formidable and strategic asset.
